Some signs of live despite another Yankees loss to Jays!
Despite the New York Yankees losing 3-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays tonight and falling a season high and a 1978-esque 14.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East, there were some signs of the Yankees beginning to turn it around this year:
1. Jason Giambi homered in the seventh off reliever Kevin Downs to tie the game at 1. His 7th homer of the year, and finally coming through in the clutch for those Bronx Bombers for the first time in eons.
2. Andy Pettitte was brilliant again: (7.1 INP, 6 H, 3 R (1 earned), and 3 K). However he fell to (3-4), despite his magnificent 2.51 ERA.
3. The Yankees actually made less errors than their opposition. The Yanks made 2, and the Jays made 3! This time it wasn't Robinson Cano, it was his fellow infielders, SS Derek Jeter aka Captain Colon and 3B Alex Rodriguez aka E-Rod (as Steve Somers say). (Remember this is a Mets fan dishing out these very compassionate nicknames!)
4. Yankee reliever Scott Proctor actually pitched 2/3 of an inning and didn't allow a base-runner, allow the Blue Jays already regained the lead 3-2 when he game into the game in the bottom of the eighth inning!
5. Joe Torre actually stayed in the dugout all game, as opposed to on the diamond meaning that there weren't many calls to argue.
However, the bottom line is that the Yankees lost their 5th straight, and the Red Sox keep on rollin' with a 4-2 win over the AL Central leading Cleveland Indians. But, there is some signs of life looming out of the Bronx Bombers.
