All hail Pedro! Mets ace returns to mound!
as reported by KSN Reporter Ethan Kwassman
The Amazins' received great news Tuesday afternoon with starting pitching Pedro Martinez throwing off the mound for the first time since recovering from a torn rotator cuff surgery last fall. Pedro fired fastballs for the first time in eight months down on a minor league complex in Florida. Martinez threw 38 pitches, and you can check out the rest of the story here.
Beat from the Kwass: I guess Pedro will be back better than we thought. It'll be tough for Willie, whether to send down Jorge Sosa, who is (5-1), who is the 5th starter right now. You have to think the Mets won't go to a six-man rotation especially with how well Glavine, El Duque, Perez, and Maine have performed individually and collectively as a group.
Mets In Game Notes:
First off, Mets (35-20) and Phillies (28-29) are tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning right now.
Carlos Beltran returns to the lineup tonight after missing all 3 games over the weekend, as the D-Backs took 2-of-3 from the lack luster Mets.
Tom Glavine (5-3)was going for career win #296, and definitely pitched well-enough to win over seven innings, but was pitch-it for by Ruben Gotay in the bottom of the seventh. He'll have to wait another day for that 6th win, and to get to 4 from the majestic #300.
40-year old southpaw Jamie Moyer started for the Phillies and was just as strong over 7 innings. In fact, both Glavine and Moyer allowed 2 runs on 8 hits over 7 INP.
Paul Lo-Duca drove in the 2 Mets runs thus far (see how I worded that, lol), with a single in the second, and Chase Utley drove in both Phillies runs (see how I worded that!, lol), with a double in the third (the half-inning later). Lets see if the Mets can pull out another late-inning victory!
