Yankees have Hillenbrand on their mind!
as reported by Ethan Kwassman KSN ReporterAccording to various reports from the NY newspapers, ESPN, and sources circulating the web, the New York Yankees are very close to some sort of deal for Anaheim Angels DH Shea Hillenbrand to be acquired in a deal to come to the Bronx and play first. The Yankees have couldn't be in a better time to need a first baseman, as slugger Jason Giambi is our for the season with a foot injury, defensive genius Doug Mientkiewicz is on the 60-day DL from a brutal collision he suffered when colliding with Mike Lowell in a game earlier this month in Fenway, and Miquel Cairo is contributing as a starter, but there are several times already since he's taken over the role that he shows his signs of being a back-up role player. Prospects Josh Phelps and Andy Phillips both still need seasoning at the plate and in the field.
Hillenbrand is hitting .255 with 3 homers and 20 rbis in 184 at-bats thus far this year for the Halos, and with Casey Kotchman, the starter at first for the first-place Angels in the AL West, and their depth in their DH spot, this could be beneficial to the Anaheim Angels of Anaheim, also for the sake that they can get some slugger (a prospect of course), in return. The Angels, despite their hefty (45-26) record, they are 11th in the AL in homers, (Vladimir Guerrero leads them with 12), and Josh Phelps could contribute big-time in a DH role for them.
